Funded by public subscription both in period and modern day, the iconic marvels of engineering were raced at Goodwood in the early days of the Circuit, winning a handful of Formula Libre races
Designed for Formula 1 in 1947 and raced until the mid-1950s, the unique engine layout produced 600PS (441kW) at 12,000rpm with a rumoured redline of up to 14,000rpm.
Ultimately, however, their complicated nature ruled them out of contention on the international stage. Nonetheless, they remain an important part of Goodwood’s history, and are as impressive on track today as they were way back when…
