Gallery: Crazy timed laps in the SpeedWeek Shootout qualifying

17th October 2020

One of the best things about Goodwood SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard is the opportunity to do something completely new. The Super Special, the Driftkhana and of course, the SpeedWeek Shootout presented by Mastercard are an all-new treat. The latter is especially cool, because it sees all sorts of cars at maximum attack around the Goodwood Motor Circuit, like we’ve never seen before. Not demo runs, timed, full-pace runs.

So qualifying for the Shootout was always going to be a treat, with everything from a 1976 McLaren M23 F1 car, to an all-new customer-only Audi R8 GT2 sportscar special taking part. Tom Kristensen was on hand to drive the latter, as well as the Le Mans-winning Porsche WSC 95 sports prototype.

As with the shootout at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, any and all types of car takes part. F1, sportscars, NASCARs, Group A, Group C, Group 5, GT2, GT3, GTE, GTD. Name the class and there’s a very good possibility possibility it’s represented. It’s always amazing to watch at the Festival but at SpeedWeek, at the Motor Circuit, it’s even more thrilling. Tomorrow, the competitors are going for broke. Nick Padmore leads the times in his Arrows A11 F1 car, with a time of 1 minute 9.9 seconds in qualifying. We can’t wait to watch the full shootout tomorrow.
