Sportscars have played a central role at Goodwood throughout. Indeed the only major international championships ever to hold points-scoring rounds at Goodwood were for sportscars. Each year at the Revival the glory of the World Sportscar Championship is celebrated in the Sussex Trophy, and now that race comes to SpeedWeek.
The Sussex Trophy recreates the years that the World Sportscar Championship used to race at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. In the late 1950s the culminating round of the championship was the RAC TT at Goodwood, with sportscars competing for glory. It included the iconic moment that Aston Martin were crowned champions – despite setting fire to one of their cars. The race has long been the finisher of the Goodwood Revival, a 20 minute dash for victory between some of the most beautiful sportscars ever to race.
The cars in the Sussex Trophy are sportscars that raced from 1955-1960. The 2019 race, moved to close the Saturday of the event, was one of the best Sussex Trophies ever, with the win being fought over by a foursome of Lotus 15, Ferrari 246S Dino and Listers Knobbly and Costin. Other cars you can expect to see will be the stunning Cooper Monaco, sleek Tojeiro and the bonkers .
Sam Hancock – a regular on GRR's channels – is normally around the front in that Ferrari 246S Dino, other regulars are Roger Wills, David Hard, Gary Pearson, Olly Bryant, outright lap record holder Nick Padmore and the ever popular Julian Majzub
In the first and only Goodwood SpeedWeek you'll can watch the whole race, as well as qualifying and all the other racing on the Goodwood Road & Racing website or on our social media channels on 16th-18th October 2020.
