There’s a reason the Jaguar E-type is so popular as a racing car at Goodwood, over and above those historically good looks. It’s a properly balanced racing car, with good pace in combination with strong handling. So when you pit two pre-‘63 roadsters against each other around Goodwood, with good drivers behind the wheel of both, you know you’re in for some lap-after-lap nose-to-tail action. That’s exactly what we got at SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard.
Out front is Goodwood historic racing veteran, Gary Pearson, in the number 20 E-Type. In pursuit is relative newcomer Harvey Stanley in the number 36. Lap after lap Harvey sits in pursuit, waiting for traffic, waiting for a mistake. Eventually, that patch of traffic affords Stanley the opportunity to put closer pressure on, and look to make a move. Experienced racer as Pearson is, he defends with consummate resolve. Can Stanley make it past into the lead? Does Pearson defend to the end? Is there a crunch to end the tussle? Watch and find out.
