Dermot O’Leary is famous for many things. Being a rally star isn’t one of them. Happily, on-hand to help him hone his off-road craft in the new Land Rover Defender is rally star Catie Munnings. They take it in turns tackling Goodwood’s gruelling off-road course, to put the capable new 2020 Defender to the ultimate test.
They really don’t go easy on it, throwing it at ruts, over crests, through mud and across fields at high speed. You may not need us to tell you who goes quicker around the course but it’s fun to see the difference between a novice and a seasoned rally driver. It’s also interesting to see just how much time can be shaved off with a bit of expert tuition and practice. A good effort from Dermot, though we don’t expect Elfyn Evans to be getting too worried for his WRC seat any time soon...
