Goodwood’s SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard had plenty of tyre-tearing action, from the Super Special, to the pre-war fire-spitters of the S.F. Edge Trophy. What race was the prettiest, though? It had to be the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy for pre-1963 GT racers.
It is by design the prettiest race, featuring E-types and Cobras in the purest form, Aston Martin DB4s and of course the inimitable Ferrari 250 GT SWBs. They’re made all the more beautiful by coming out as the sun sky turns golden over the horizon and across the panel-beaten curves.
Of course, there’s no style for style’s sake at Goodwood. While they look good standing still, they look even better in action in the full race, as dull spotlights duck and bob across the Motor Circuit’s bumps and crests while the sun goes down. Watch these cars get driven just as Sir Stirling Moss did back in his TT-dominating days in that stunning Ferrari 250 GT.
