Imagine the scene. Rally cars scream out of the assembly area at Goodwood, turn left down the start/finish straight before flicking right off the Circuit and into the trees. Sounds great doesn’t it? Well that’s exactly what you can see at the 78th Goodwood Members’ Meeting this weekend.
The first ever public rally sprint at Goodwood, the Goodwood Super Special presented by Cooper Tires, begins as the sun sets and the party starts on Saturday night, running through a specially-created rally sprint course that takes in not just parts of the Goodwood Motor Circuit, but also some of the surrounding area. And we’re pleased to be able to bring you a map of the full rally route.
With a field full of Group B cars, Group A cars and more from Audi, Toyota, BMW, MG, Subaru, Ford and more, this is set to be one of the most exciting additions to a Members’ Meeting since the events were revived in 2014.
The stage will run four times, twice in each direction, with two runs on Saturday night and two on Sunday morning. Each pair will form a practice run and a timed run, with the finishing order being taken from an aggregate of the two timed runs.
The stages use the iconic Goodwood start/finish straight, the chicane and both parts of Woodcote corner and its run off, as well as the area around gate two, the path that runs through the trees behind the bank after the chicane and a specially created donut area in the chicane paddock.
With the whole stage set on tarmac it should be a fast and furious showcase of incredible driving skill in some brilliant historic machines.
