Good news! Bonhams’ 78th Members’ Meeting Sale will go ahead as planned, albeit with a few format tweaks…
It’s hard to think of a single area of daily life that hasn’t been affected by the coronavirus in some way, and with news of the virus on TV, on the radio and online it’s hard to find good news. That being said, while the difficult decision has been made to postpone the 78th Members’ Meeting, the Bonhams’ sale at Goodwood, scheduled to begin at 1pm on Sunday March 29th, is still on.
The sale will be unlike any other Bonhams auction, however, as viewings ahead of the sale will be by appointment only and the sale itself will be behind closed doors. So how will it work?
If you are interested in seeing a car in person you can make the trip to Goodwood for a one-hour slot from 9am-5pm on Saturday March 28th or 9am-11:45am on Sunday March 29th. Just remember these slots are by appointment only, so get in touch with Bonhams first (email ukcars@bonhams.co.uk). Only ten viewers will be allowed inside the Bonhams marquee at a time “to ensure sufficient social distancing”, and extra hand sanitising precautions will be in place. Bonhams will also make sure that door handles, for example, are kept clean.
Alternatively Bonhams will make walkaround videos of each car, so if you’re unable to make it to Goodwood you can still get a decent look around the car.
As for the auction itself, while you can’t attend in person Bonhams has made sure the phone lines and online bidding system can cope with the extra traffic.
You can watch a live stream of the auction on GRR’s YouTube channel, and in turn here on GRR (we’ll have a link coming soon), or you can watch it on the Bonhams website.
It’ll feel a little different to previous Bonhams auctions at Goodwood, that’s for sure, but some of the cars on offer are truly awesome and we’re no less excited for it to start. A full Bonhams’ 78th Members’ Meeting Sale preview will go live here on GRR tomorrow.
