To see one McLaren F1 GTR is mental enough. Now imagine walking into a paddock to see 15 of the things, 12 of which then start their 6.0-litre V12 engines and speed out onto Goodwood Motor Circuit. Because that’s exactly what happened at the 73rd Members’ Meeting back in 2015.
That’s right, twelve McLaren F1 GTRs flew around the circuit, the most McLaren F1 GTRs on the same track at the same time ever, probably. One was driven by Steve Soper, who raced a McLaren F1 GTR in the 1996 BPR Global GT Series, the 1997 FIA GT Championship, and at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1996 and 1997. Derek Bell took the helm of an F1 GTR, too, as did Kenny Bräck and Nick Mason. It almost doesn’t seem real.
As we look back at these magical machines as part of our Members’ Meeting Favourite Moments live stream, it gives us the perfect opportunity to look at some lovely photos, too. What a demo that was.
