Gallery: The fast and furious Gerry Marshall Trophy touring cars

09th April 2022
Simon Ostler

We always love the Gerry Marshall Trophy, and it’s back once again at this years’ 79th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport. The sights and sounds as a plethora of Group 1 touring cars from the 1970s and early ‘80s are pitted against each other are some of the highlights of the weekend.

Spectators are treated to a great contrast of styles, with monstrous Chevrolet Camaros, Ford Capris, Rover SD1s, all resplendent in iconic period liveries, competing against feisty Fiestas and Minis in an intense battle between deft agility and brutish horsepower.

It always leads to fireworks on the Goodwood Motor Circuit, made even better as these glorious machines glisten in the brilliant spring sunshine.

These cars were the first out on Saturday morning for a high-octane practice session featuring plenty of paint swapping and sideways action as the Boss 302 Mustang driven by Jason Plato and Craig Davies took pole position.

Saturday’s feature race saw Jack Tetley dominate the opening laps, muscling his way past Davies to lead in his 1978 Camaro Z28, while there was plenty of sideways action taking place through the entire field as we have come to expect from this fantastic pageant of front-engined monsters.

If you want to watch the 79th Members’ Meeting, you can watch Saturday in full here on GRR and across our social channels. To watch on Sunday you’ll need to be a Member or Fellow of the GRRC.
