Hughie Walker oversteered his way to victory in the opening instalment of the S.F. Edge Trophy contest for Edwardian specials aboard Nicholas Hildyard’s 1913 Theophile Schneider Aero.
However, victory was far from preordained, Ben Collins having vanished up the road at the start of the five-lap race in his 200hp ‘Blitzen Benz.’ He held an 11-second lead over his pursuers by the end of the second lap, only for his car’s bonnet to work its way open which prompted two stops to remedy the situation.
Walker and veteran Julian Majzub then waged war, the latter’s 1916 Sunbeam ‘Indianapolis’ unable to stay ahead, to fend off the even older car after a brave move at the first part of Lavant.
