A phenomenal line up of 25 Bugattis was led away from the line by the third place Type 35 of Duncan Pittaway before the more powerful cars surged ahead, Charles Knill-Jones in the 35B leading Julian Majzub’s 35B and Tom Dark’s Type 59/50B III into Madgwick. Martin Halusa in a Type 35C and Chris Hudson in another 35B rounded out the top five. A missed gear by Majzub on the run-up to Woodcote saw Dark surged into second and close on Knill-Jones.
The bigger engine of Dark’s later car allowed him out-drag Knill-Jones into Madgwick shortly afterwards. A spin at Madgwick by Charlotte Owen saw a safety car period when her Type 35B ended up park on the inside of the corner. At the restart, with a little over 12 minutes remaining, Knill-Jones retook the lead round the outside into Madgwick with Majzub also passing a slowing Dark heading into Fordwater. A retirement by Dark on lap seven due to fuelling problems handed third place to Duncan Pittaway, Charles McCabe, Hudson and Halusa rounding out the top six.
After a big off at St Mary’s with five minutes to go Majzub was forced to retire, putting Pitttaway and McCabe into second the third respectively where they remained until the chequered flag.
