S.F. Edge Trophy is the first race confirmed for 78th Members’ Meeting
If you love seeing big, aero-engined Edwardian leviathans slither around a motor circuit, you’re in luck: the S.F. Edge Trophy is the first race to be confirmed for the 78th Members’ Meeting, taking place on the 28th and 29th of March next year.
Featuring pre-1923 cars like the Benz 200hp ‘Blitzen Benz’, the Bugatti Brescia T13 and the 28.5-litre ‘Beast of Turin’ Fiat S76, the S.F. Edge Trophy sees some of motorsport’s most powerful and pioneering machines take to the Goodwood Circuit in a 15-minute sprint for glory. And with tall, skinny tyres and low track temperatures, it’s a race that always entertains.
The 77th Members’ Meeting’s S.F. Edge Trophy saw a tense, to-the-finish battle between Tony Lees in a 1913 Vauxhall Viper Special and Julian Majzub in a 1916 Sunbeam ‘Indianapolis’, with Majzub taking the victory by just 0.018 seconds.
Back in 2017, the starting grid to the S.F. Edge Trophy looked like a fight was on between a full sized racer and a child’s pedal car, with Ben Collings’ 1903 Mercedes 60hp towering over the field, particularly the 1908 GN Thunderbug of Mark Walker. Come the chequered flag, it was Mathias Sielecki who came out on top in a 1923 Delage DH V12.
