The excitement is real now. There is not long left to wait until the Can-Am monsters descend on Goodwood for what is sure to be one of the most barbaric demonstrations we’ve ever witnessed at the 81st Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport. To get us, and you, in the mood for what’s to come, we’ve compiled ten of the best-ever Can-Am moments from all of Goodwood’s motorsport events.
Whether it’s ferocious Hill runs at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, where the likes of the McLaren M8F are regularly the fastest cars over the first 100 metres courtesy of ungodly amounts of power or the sight of a Lola T70 setting lap records in the Surtees Trophy, you can guarantee the experience will be enough to set your heart into overdrive.
At every juncture, the overriding sensation is that of these outrageous V8 engines shaking the very earth you’re standing on. Can you imagine what a whole group of these are going to sound like at Members’ Meeting?
Can-Am was epitomised by the bombast of these cars. Practically unlimited in terms of what the engineers were allowed to do, it made for some of the most spectacular racing cars ever made. Clad with stunning bodywork, massive wings and even bigger rear tyres, these were the absolute peak of what was possible during the 1970s.
The 81st Members’ Meeting gets underway on the 13th & 14th April 2024, with the Can-Am demonstration due to shake the grandstands on both days. Whether you’re in attendance, or watching on our livestream, do not miss it. Whatever you do.
