If you like your steak rare and have handlebars on your face as well as your Harley, rejoice: the V8-only Pierpoint Cup will be thundering into the 78th Members’ Meeting.
The Pierpoint Cup is a celebration of pre-1966 American V8 saloons: a two-driver, 45-minute extravaganza with cars racing into the dusk of Saturday evening. And with a new format for the Gerry Marshall Trophy confirmed, the Pierpoint Cup will become the race in which the stars of touring cars, Formula 1 and sportscars battle for victory.
And the cars? They’ll be pretty special too, with a grid packed full of Ford Falcon Sprints and Galaxies, Notchback Mustangs, Dodge Darts, Plymouth Barracudas and Mercury Comet Cyclones. Engine capacities will range from 4.7- to 7.0-litres. Expect oversteer and lots and lots of noise.
The Pierpoint Cup last ran at the 75th Members’ Meeting in 2017. Then a 20-minute, single-driver sprint, there was an almighty battle between Steve Soper and Craig Davies in two Alan Mann Racing Mustangs. To say it was a close fight would be an understatement.
Tickets to the 78th Members’ Meeting are available exclusively to Goodwood Road and Racing Club members and fellows. If you’re not a member or fellow, don’t worry: with just over four months until the fans, cars and competitors flood to the Motor Circuit for the first motorsport event of 2020, you’ve still got time to join up and book.
