Following the successful debut of the heat and final race format with the all-Mini Betty Richmond Trophyat the 77thMembers’ Meeting earlier this year, the Gerry Marshall Trophy will follow the same format for the 2020 78thMembers’ Meeting.
The Betty Richmond Trophy was a huge success at 77MM, with 60 Minis competing across two heats before the top 15 of each went on to race for outright glory in the final.
While 78MM does without the Mini-galore field, the hugely popular Gerry Marshall Trophy will follow the same recipe on 28th-29thMarch next year. That means a total of 60 cars of a type that raced in the British Salon Car Championship in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. 30 will take part in heat one and a further 30 in heat two on Saturday afternoon, before the top 15 of each heat line up on the starting grid of a grand finale on Sunday afternoon. If you’re a fan of the likes of the Rover SD1, Triumph Dolomite Sprint, Mini 1275 GT, Chevrolet Camaro Z28, and Fords in Capri or Fiesta shape, it’s a weekend you simply can’t miss.
Last year’s Gerry Marshall Trophy and Gerry Marshall Sprint saw some truly spectacular racing. In Saturday’s 45-minute, two-driver Trophy, Neel Jani and James Wood stormed to victory in a Patrick Motorsport Rover SD1, while in Sunday’s Sprint Stig Blomqvist took victory in another, similarly liveried, Rover SD1.
Tickets to the 78thMembers’ Meeting are on sale now exclusively to GRRC members and Fellows. If you aren’t part of the Fellowship but don’t want to miss this saloon car extravaganza, be sure to join today.
