The only other competitors that hold on for dear life as hard as the folks in the S.F. Edge Trophy are the heroic riders of the Hailwood Trophy at the 80th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport. These heroes wound up their noxious chain-driven two- and four-stroke two-wheeled machines and took to Goodwood with gusto.
Look carefully and, through the smog, you’ll see the race begin, as Graham Higlett on the number 50 Rob North Triumph stormed off into the lead, though hot on his heels was Scott Carson on the number 24 Yamaha TZ350G. It didn’t take Carson long to make the move and begin extending his lead out within the first lap and beyond.
Coming a cropper was Dean Mitchell on his Yamaha, while a few mechanical issues made life difficult for some others. Carson saw a challenge from Dan Cooper towards the end on his number 37 Yamaha TZ350G, with Cooper giving chase preparing to make a move. Backmarkers held Cooper back just long enough for Carson to hold onto his lead come time for the checkered flag to drop. As with a number of races at the Members’ Meeting, however, it’s not over on Saturday. The Hailwood Trophy is back for part two on Sunday and will be the decider.
