The Ford GT40 is just a 100 per cent rough and ready racing car isn’t it. A revenge project by one Henry Ford in a bid to dethrone Ferrari at Le Mans, there’s not much else to it than to go as fast as possible, for as long as possible.
74MM’s Alan Mann Trophy featured a full grid of these magnificent machines tussling for an hour as the sun went down. Fitting, we think, for what is arguably one of the most iconic shapes in the history of motor racing.
Later into the race, a fierce battle between leader Rob Hall and Mike Jordan ensued, as the light began to dim. Jordan kept his car bending it’s thick sidewalls on the edge of grip, as the V8 sang, gnashing at Hall’s rear tyres. What a spectacular fight with machines that were made for little else!
