While it’s difficult to get enough of the big booming V8s of Camaros and Mustangs, we do reserve a special place in our hearts for the lesser-powered Minis, Lotus Elans and MGBs that put on an equally entertaining show whenever they make their way onto the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
It’s with videos like this, where you get to see the frantic work going on behind the wheel, that you begin to appreciate the efforts of the drivers as they slide these cars around, desperately trying to maintain momentum, lap after lap. Aside from the exceptional skills, it looks absolutely exhausting.
It also makes for some truly epic racing, because these MGBs are separated by little more than the desire of the drivers. A case in point is Ed Foster, who we can see out of the windscreen during this video, coming out of The Chicane on three wheels as he squeezes every ounce of grip and power out of his car.
We’re riding onboard with Josh Barnett, who takes advantage of some traffic to send one back up the inside of Foster on the run-up to Fordwater as he desperately tries to cling onto his position. These two remain engaged in close combat for the entirety of this nine-minute video, and the commitment from both drivers to leave absolutely nothing on the table is hugely impressive.
While the MGBs won’t be racing at this year’s 81st Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, you can bet there will be plenty of other spectacular racing cars taking to the track over the weekend to put on a show as good as this one.
