To try and pick the very best moments from the many Goodwood Members’ Meetings presented by Audrain Motorsport is a tricky challenge. This one, the McLaren F1 GTR demo from the 73rd Members’ Meeting made it onto our top ten list, and by watching this video you’ll find out for yourself why that is.
A line-up of nine McLaren F1 GTRs, showcasing not only how brilliant they are, but also how many there were, with several versions of the standard car mixed in with the glorious ‘Long Tails’ that raced so successfully during the 1997 season.
Powered by howling 6.1-litre V12s, these cars sound as good as they look, travelling as they are at pretty considerable speeds around the Goodwood Motor Circuit. The noise as they sore down the pit straight is biblical.
The McLaren F1 GTR is perhaps most famous for its overall victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1995, but it was a dominant force in GT racing across the world for much of the mid-late ‘90s, picking up in excess of 40 wins during its active tenure at circuits including Jerez, Donington, Suzuka, Silverstone, Monza, Fuji and Hockenheim.
These are without doubt some of the coolest racing cars in history, and to have them putting on a show at the Members’ Meeting was quite incredible. Here’s to plenty more where this came from, starting with the impending arrival of Can-Am monsters, and the Sidecar Shootout, at the 81st Members’ Meeting.
