It's only just over a year since Nick Padmore won the Bruce McLaren Trophy at the 73rd Members' Meeting, and in the process smashed the long-standing Goodwood lap record.
This year he went even quicker, albeit setting his new benchmark in qualifying and therefore not notching an official lap record. However his astonishing time of 1minute 17.079 seconds was a full 1.2 seconds faster than his former marque (and a second faster than he went in qualifying in 2015).
Speaking to GRR's Bob Murray after setting the amazing time Nick said: 'I didn’t set out to break my time of last year. I haven’t driven the car since Revival when it was too sideways, so for 74MM we treated ourselves to new rubber – the first we have put on the car. The new tyres make a massive difference, and it was a very quick day… but I just jumped in and went for a drive. It felt pretty nice but not that fast, in fact I thought my time was a mistake…’
Now strap yourselves in and join Nick and the mighty Lola T70 for that astonishing tour of the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
