Sunday at the Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport is always a bit more of a relaxed one for everyone, be they staff, owners, drivers or indeed guests. We got our eye in with Saturday, got a feel for things and then Sunday is our chance to let loose a bit. Happily, that’s exactly the attitude our drivers carried into the day, in the demos and the races. It was a proper day of excitement, on and off track. The cherry on the cake? The weather cleared!
So what do we count among the very best moments of day two? Naturally, Tom Kristensen being released by the Continental GT Le Mans Collection, to fully extend the Speed 8 of 2003. And fully extend it he did, working the aerodynamics and tyres to build and maintain traction, nearly losing it at St Mary’s. It’s perhaps obvious that all the demos – the Brabhams, the GT1s – were highlights for us, though in the case of the 911 demo, it was very cool specifically to see the 911 GT1-98 given the beans, as a 911 GT1 Evo spluttered flames out trying to keep up.
The racing delivered some of our top moments, too. Our favourite? Probably the Volvo 242 T in the Gordon Spice Trophy leading a pack of hungry Group 1 touring cars, gnashing at its rear slicks. For lap after lap it fought them off and just as we thought it’d be the Camaro’s chance to pass, he’d held them off – and the rest – yet again. The S.F. Edge never fails to deliver some absolute jaw-droppers, nor do the Moss and Hailwood. All of these and more comprise our top 10 moments of day two. What were your favourites?
