We’re well and truly into build up season for the 81st Goodwood Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, and that means we’re going to spend the next two months watching back all of the best moments from previous events. And there are few more memorable than this, the LMP demonstration that captivated us all during the 77th Members’ Meeting.
These demonstrations are always must-watch affairs, a chance to see some of the greatest racing machines ever built return to action on our historic Motor Circuit. This one in particular, showcasing a selection of Le Mans Prototypes that includes several winners of the Le Mans 24 Hours, was one of the very best.
The list of cars includes the 2003 Le Mans-winning Bentley Speed 8, driven by none other than Tom Kristensen, the 2009-winning Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, an Audi R8 of the type that won in 2000, ’01, ’02, ’04 and ’05 and the Porsche 919 Hybrid that won in 2015.
Alongside them, we had some of the most recognisable racing cars in history. The PlayStation-liveried Judd-engined Dallara SP1, and the Panoz LMP1 Roadster-S. The V10s of the Dallaras sing high above the rumble of the V8 Panoz, and it makes for a quite remarkable soundtrack.
It’s moments like this that get us so excited for what’s to come at the 81st Members’ Meeting. We’ll have the Can-Am demonstration, which is bound to be among the loudest moments to ever feature on the Goodwood Motor Circuit, and a return of contemporary motorsport competition for the first time since 1966 when the flag drops on the Sidecar Shootout.
