This weekend jump in our GRR time machine and let us take you back, way back, to 2014. Yes, it’s the 72nd Members’ Meeting, and it’s Sunday. We’re going to have some fun.
We kick off the second day of 72MM with the Tony Gaze Trophy, a beautiful sprint for sports and GT cars that raced in the 1950s. This absolute stunner of a grid includes cars from Ferrari, Jaguar, Aston Martin, MG and Porsche and feels like the perfect way to start a Sunday (even if it is actually Saturday).
That will be followed by another eight races through the next just over six hours, interspersed with three awesome demonstrations. Racing will include the Surtees Trophy – for Can-Am cars and GT40s, the fastest grid at Goodwood – the two-driver, BTCC-packed Gerry Marshall Trophy and the stunning Peter Collins Trophy for the kind of sportscars that battled just after World War II. The rest of the racing day will be filled with more Formula 1 and touring car action.
Filling the gaps between the competitive races will be our three demonstrations. Back in 2014, the first time we introduced this kind of demo, they were for the brutally-powerful Formula 1 cars of the first turbo era, stunning low-rag Le Mans racers and the flame-spitting Group B rally cars that stunned the world in the 1980s (coincidentally, you’ll be able to find Group C cars among the entry for the re-scheduled 78th Members’ Meeting’s Rally Sprint next April).
Join us on this bank holiday weekend (Saturday is after all scheduled to be the least sunny of the three days) for another day of lockdown racing action, where we’re again asking you to help us raise some money for the NHS Charities urgent COVID-19 fund.
