Bruce McLaren was a fearless, bold, fast, determined and absolutely adored by all who worked with him or knew him. He moved across to the other side of the world to race, founded his own team, won four Grands Prix, dominated the Can-Am championship and won the Le Mans 24 Hours. And 50 years ago today (2nd June) he lost his life in a tragic accident at Goodwood.
His legacy is one of the most successful teams in Formula 1 history, a domination of the Can-Am championship and Ford's first real interanational motorsport success at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1956. Even after he had passed his team were able to galvanise around his memory and achieve greateness in the very depths of despair. He was one of the true pioneers of motorsport.
Here we've brought together a selection of images that showcase the amaing bredth of McLaren's career. It shows that he managed to fit in an almost unbelieveable amount of racing catagories despite his life being cut so short.
