McLaren’s Woking HQ-based bespoke tailoring division, McLaren Special Operations (MSO), was recently challenged to produce a road-going homage to the iconic and successful McLaren F1 GTR endurance racer of the 1990s.
MSO has now revealed a special one-off McLaren 675LT, created specifically to combine the famous F1 GTR’s Gulf racing livery, along with personalised and bespoke features to its customer’s brief.
This unique 675LT project, which was undertaken with the agreement of Gulf Oil International Ltd to use its famous racing livery pale blue and orange colours, occupied more than 1,000 hours of MSO’s time, with the paintwork alone – including airbrushing – accounted for 800 hours of that total.
The striking Gulf Racing exterior colour scheme of this personalised MSO Bespoke commission 675LT is a tribute to the 1997 Gulf-Davidoff GTC team McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’. A bespoke cabin finish, 20-spoke wheels in Dayglo Orange, plus MSO exterior and interior components complement the unique paint scheme.
McLaren’s MSO division also replaced numerous standard 675LT components with MSO parts and further personalised the car to clearly identify it with its owner, a service that an increasing number of McLaren customers request.
The special 675LT’s light blue, black and red hues of the exterior paint, including the trademark orange centre stripe, are an unmistakable recreation of the Gulf Racing colours that adorn the 1997 McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ race car. The same orange colour is used for sill badges that bear the customer’s initials.
The one-off car is also fitted with louvered front wings, roof scoop upgrade and carbon fibre airbrake from the MSO range of options for the McLaren 675LT, all featuring body colour paint. The 675LT’s interior was designed to complement both the exterior theme and the personalization, with bespoke MSO Carbon Black racing seats with orange and blue contrast stitching, and the initials of the owner embroidered in blue on the headrest, with the seat belts in orange.
Now with the visual impact of the F1 GTR, this 675LT has the appearance to match its performance; with a twin-turbocharged McLaren V8 engine producing 675PS (666bhp) and 700Nm (516lb ft) of torque. The 675LT accelerates 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in just 2.9 seconds and has a maximum speed of 205mph.
