We gather there’s a bit of a motorsport soiree taking place this weekend in a small city on the Côte d'Azur. Most know it as the Monaco Grand Prix. We know it’s one of the most iconic motor races on the calendar, has been thus for longer than living memory and by virtue of this, is one of the three glistening jewels in the triple crown of motorsport.
Even the most staunch of modern F1 sceptics will find it hard to resist this most spectacular of rounds where the city is the star, rather than the cars. If it were anything other than Monaco, the circuit would have been binned long ago due to its floatation of modern track layout regulation. But it’s Monaco... ceremony won’t be stood on here.
So to get you ready for Sunday’s action, we thought we’d compile a gallery of F1 and Grand Prix machinery from eras past that we captured two weeks ago at the Monaco Historique. These are the forebears of today’s machines that set the records and cemented the legends that F1 trades off today. We also happen to think they look and sound a bit cooler too…
