The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team has confirmed its presence at the 2021 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. Fans for the seven-time consecutive world champion team can look forward to seeing the 2019 W10 in action on the Hill.
Yes, that’s the most up-to-date Mercedes F1 car we’ve yet had at the Festival and indeed, the first of the ‘halo’ era to be seen in action on the Hill. Piloting the car throughout the weekend will be testing aces Esteban Gutiérrez and Ant Davidson. The car will be resplendent in the updated 2021 livery that you’ve been watching in the heat of battle these last few weekends.
The year of 2019 was a highly significant one for both the team and the sport in which it competes. In terms of the sport, it was the 70th running of the F1 World Championship and featured the 1,000th championship race, the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix. For Mercedes, it was the year it tied with Ferrari for consecutive championships won, with its sixth firmly in the bag by the United States Grand Prix. In the final race of the 2019 season in Abu Dhabi, Sir Lewis Hamilton achieved a race ‘grand slam’ with the W10. That’s pole position, in addition to winning via a fastest lap, while leading every lap of the race.
The W10 arguably represents some of the best form that the Mercedes team and its multiple championship-winner have been in for the recent years of the V6 hybrid era. As the battle to uphold a hard-won legacy continues in the 2021 season, you’ll be able to see this title-calibre car put to the test on the Hill.
