Red Bull Racing has launched its contender for the 2023 Formula 1 season. It’s called the RB19, and it represents an evolution of one of the most dominant cars F1 has ever seen.
Coming off the back of a 2022 season that saw Red Bull take 17 victories in all on the way to winning both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships, all eyes will be on this latest challenger to roll out of Milton Keynes when it takes to the track for the first time.
The car we’ve been given a glimpse of looks like little more than a placeholder for now. We suspect any detail that Red Bull considers to be worth protecting, or of vital importance for performance, will have been left off this launch spec, with a much-changed car likely to be unleashed on track once testing gets underway at the end of February.
One thing which definitely hasn’t changed is the livery. Something that Red Bull is becoming rather infamous for. But as Max Verstappen said so logically during the launch ceremony, they keep winning with this livery so why would they change it? It does seem the team has found its sweet spot with this Red Bull livery.
That being said, the team has also announced a fresh initiative for 2023, that will see the car decked out in a livery designed by fans at the three grands prix set to be hosted in the USA (Miami, Austin and Las Vegas). Fans will be able to submit their designs, and three winners will be selected by a judging panel.
Alongside the launch of the RB19, Red Bull also announced its partnership with Ford, which will see the American automotive giant provide support to Red Bull’s engine development arm – Red Bull Powertrains – when the new power unit regulations land for the 2026 season.
This was also the first public appearance of Daniel Ricciardo in his new capacity as Red Bull’s reserve driver for 2023. The Australian re-joined the team after he was told his services were no longer required at McLaren and will spend the majority of this season away from the circuit, working behind the scenes and in the simulator.
