We like a good motorsport film here at GRR. Sometimes the accuracy is a little… eh, but we’ll take it if that means great racing stories are brought into the wider zeitgeist, if only for a moment. The next F1 movie however is set to come to fruition with the help of one of the sport’s greatest stars. Sir Lewis Hamilton no less, will be helping produce an F1 movie with Apple.
It’s due to be directed by Joseph Kosinski, who is catching particular praise for his most recent film, Top Gun: Maverick. The F1 film will also be getting one of Top Gun’s writers, Ehren Kruger. Anecdotally, we’d say it’s in safe hands with them both. Brad Pitt will be starring, which is no bad thing given his affinity for racing and well-known career as a top-level actor.
Where a few question marks come up is regarding the synopsis. This film will not be retelling historic events as far as we can tell. Pitt’s character will be a driver who is coming out of retirement, alongside a rookie, racing against “the titans of the sport”. There’s no mention of real drivers being featured, what era it will represent, or whether there is even any F1 licencing.
It all remains to be seen, but we’re watching on with curiosity. There’s definitely some potential. Apple TV+ will be getting the movie, after a global run in cinemas of 30 days or more. Are you excited for this new Hamilton-produced F1 movie?
