In February we wrote about the new Williams FW43 ahead of the 2020 F1 season, but this hasn’t been a normal year for motorsport and the FW43 has yet to turn a wheel. Now, with the first race of 2020 set to take place in Austria on 5th July, Williams has unveiled the FW43 for the second time with an entirely new look.
Why the fresh paint? Because Williams has put the team up for sale, and ended its title sponsorship contract with mobile phone company ROKit, a deal that only started in 2019 and was set to run until 2023. Williams F1’s parent company Williams Grand Prix Holdings made the announcement in March, saying it had made a £13m loss in 2019 and “options being considered include, but are not limited to, raising new capital for the business, a divestment of a minority stake in WGPH, or a divestment of a majority stake in WGPH including a potential sale of the whole Company
Fingers crossed that even with such a tough financial situation Williams will have a more positive season this year, and George Russell and rookie Nicholas Latifi will be seen further up the grid than 19th and 20th.
