A modern Formula 1 car on the banked curves of an oval? Surely some mistake? No, here we do in fact have a V10-powered Ferrari Grand Prix car screaming around Daytona International Speedway.
The track isn’t in its flat out 240 miles-an-hour Daytona 500 layout as the road course includes – shock horror – some right turns but the Ferrari F399 still howls around the long banked left handers. The occasion was the 2016 Finali Mondiali, an end of season event for all the Ferrari 488 Challenge series from around the world.
The lucky driver of the Formula 1 car was a Ferrari Corse Clienti customer having a very good day indeed. It’s only a shame that there wasn’t an equivalent IndyCar present to answer the age old question of which would be faster.
