Video: Flying around Mugello in a Ferrari F2008 F1 car

This weekend sees the F1 circus roll into the historic Mugello for the Tuscan Grand Prix – no, not the Italian Grand Prix, as that happened at Monza last weekend. F1 teams have been there before, most notably for a test in 2012, and Ferrari have been there a fair bit, too, the Mugello circuit lying just an hour and a half away from Ferrari’s base in Maranello. But there has never been a Mugello F1 race.

As there’s no race footage to enjoy and no onboards from that test in 2012 we’ve had to look elsewhere for our Mugello F1 fix, and as luck would have it we’ve found something. Before we’ve brought you a video of Gerhard Berger’s Ferrari 412T2 F1 car at Mugello, but in this video you join Henrik Hedman aboard his Ferrari F1 F2008. Enjoy the brilliant angle from the onboard camera mounted above his head as he makes light work of a lap or two, hugging the racing line as the Ferrari screams in delight. As the video caption accurately states: “each lap is like a golden ticket”.

Powered by a 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated V8, the F2008 stormed to the victory in the 2008 World Constructors’ Championship, with Kimi Räikkönen taking two race wins and Felipe Massa six. And as we all know so well, it was the car that made Massa world champion for about 20 seconds at his home Grand Prix in Brazil until Lewis Hamilton made a final corner overtake a few cars back, in doing so sneaking ahead of Massa in the drivers’ championship by just one point.
