Usually we bring you a screaming hot lap for a mid-week Elevenses, but today we’ve hit upon something slightly more composed. And as ‘how to’ videos go, it has to be our new favourite.
This coming weekend would have been the 2020 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, the first F1 race at Zandvoort and the first F1 race in the Netherlands full stop since 1985.
Having undergone a comprehensive overhaul over the past couple of years to meet modern F1 safety standards, today’s Circuit Zandvoort is a slightly different beast – although it’s still fast and challenging, and promises to be one of the best tracks on the 2020 F1 calendar, as Max Verstappen’s first lap in an old Red Bull F1 car proved.
But as we’ve seen an onboard of the new Zandvoort, we thought it would be a good idea to see a hot-lap of the old Zandvoort, too. So join 2015 Blancpain Endurance Pro Cup Champion and Bathurst 12 Hour winner Wolfgang Reip for a narrated lap, filmed back in 2013 ahead of the circuit’s inaugural FIA GT race.
Then racing for Nissan Nismo, the Belgian driver took to Zandvoort for a practice lap in a GT-R Nismo GT3, covering the 2.46-mile circuit at an excellent pace. He then narrated his onboard footage, explaining the exact process behind his prowess. Of course, he makes it sound so simple, almost as if anyone could do it…
