Anthony Davidson is no stranger to the hillclimb at Goodwood, having taken various Mercedes-AMG F1 and Toyota WEC machinery up our 1.16-miles of tarmac.
This year the 2014 World Endurance Champion attacked the Hill with a great deal of gusto, both in the Mercedes-Benz W04, which we saw at Member’s Meeting in the same hands, and his World Endurance Championship winning Toyota TS040.
Today we’re sharing two runs up the Hill in the Mercedes-AMG F1 car as peddled in the series by Nico Rosberg and World Champ Lewis Hamilton.
We don’t put a stopwatch near Formula 1 cars at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard any more, but we at GRR have an inkling that one of these two runs could well have pushed Nick Heidfeld‘s long-standing record of 41.6 seconds very close indeed.
It wouldn’t be the first time an untimed run has raised a few eyebrows in the office, as in 2014 Formula E racer and co-WEC champion Sebastien Buemi had a good go at the Hill in a Red Bull.
We’ll never truly know just how fast our Ant’ was, or how fast he could have gone had the stopwatch been running, but we do know that the timed shootout saw a winning run of just 44.9-seconds by Olly Clark in his ‘Gobstopper II’ Subaru Impreza. Maybe the record is ripe for breaking…
