Scalextric: the mother of all petrolhead’s childhood Christmas presents. This set however, is a little special. This is in fact a custom slot racing model of the Monaco Grand Prix Circuit complete with detailed scenery and even the correct racing lines. Imagine finding that under the Christmas tree?
An intelligent slot switch system was built into the circuit by Frenchman David Caille at Sillage Racing. He developed the idea to allow all cars to follow the ideal line until another car catches up with a competitor, the overtaking car is then switched into the overtake slot and the two cars will stay side by side until the battle is won.
Time to challenge your friends to catch you around the Grand Hotel Hairpin or through the Tunnel. There’s even a chance for the brave to overtake at La Rascasse. Scalextric with a real overtake system at Monaco? Sounds better than the real thing…
