The Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard is possibly the best place in the world to see F1 cars. Yes, it’s not 20 of the world’s greatest drivers going at it hammer and tongs for 70-odd laps, but actually it’s so much more than that. We’re lucky enough at Goodwood to be able to bring you not just some of the latest F1 machines, but a variety of the greatest from history – and therefore a larger selection of F1 cars than you would see at your average Grand Prix.
This video features F1 cars from the era in which I began watching F1: the screaming V10 era of the 1990s – which we recently celebrated at the 79th Goodwood Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport.
In it you’ll find such stunning sights as Karun Chandhok not exactly babying Nigel Mansell’s 1992 F1 title winning Williams FW14B, and the stunning ex-Ayrton Senna McLaren MP4/6 heading up the hill.
But what you might not expect, is that the highlight is a Minardi. To be precise it’s the 1992 Minardi M191B. Now this Minardi, like all of them before Red Bull’s millions, was not a success in its day. But it has an ace up its sleeve that means you cannot ignore it – a 3.5-litre Lamborghini V12. Yes, you read that correctly, a Minardi powered by a Lamborghini engine.
It sounds…. pretty good.
