There are two key things you need to know about this Minardi M191B. Number one, it was woefully unsuccessful. Number two, it has one of the most glorious and ear-splitting engine notes you’re every likely to hear.
The 191B was a development of the Ferrari-engined 191 that raced in the 1991 Formula 1 season. While that car managed two fourth place finishes, the 191B was retired by both Christian Fittpaldi and Gianni Morbidelli in two out of the four races in which it was entered, then by the latter in the third race and the former in the fourth. Hardly a success story, wouldn’t you say?
However, away from the competitive world it was originally created for and placed in front of tens of thousands of petrol-thirsty F1 fans, it’s failures can be forgiven. Why? Because not only is it an incredibly pretty F1 car but its Lamborghini V12 is breathtakingly loud.
If you miss noise in modern Formula 1, maybe just put the TV on mute for the next race and play this in the background instead…
