Video: The raw sound of a V10 F1 engine at 20,000rpm

A Formula 1 engine is a mechanical masterpiece, there’s no denying it.

With the need to withstand prolonged high stress and aggressive driving, the engines have to be built to the highest specifications and intricately fine-tuned.

And part of that fine tuning process includes revving the nuts off it in a static environment. In this video, dating from before Honda’s last withdrawal from the sport, a wired-up F1 engine can be seen undergoing the rigorous testing process on a dyno.

As it revs beyond 20,000, the engine screams and the pipes glow a luminous shade of red. Ultimately, as the revs are cut the exhausts spit flames, a brilliant representation of these potent powerplants.
