The Tyrrell 012 had a tumultuous run in Formula 1. Introduced towards the end of the 1983 season with its updated version of the Ford-Cosworth DFV engine, it was already horr...

Things got worse in 1984, when the Tyrrell team was disqualified from the entire season for a technical infringement, meaning points scored by both Martin Brundle and Stefan Bellof were erased from the record books.

Its final legacy is a sentimental one, as the 012 became the last car to ever run the DFV engine (in DFY form) in a Formula 1 race, an era that lasted for the best part of 15 years. And the thing that remember most about that glorious engine is the noise; so distinct, so memorable, so evocative.

In this video, we get to hear it at super-close proximity, as we ride onboard with the Tyrrell 012 as it races to victory during the Monterey Reunion at Leguna Seca. With its DFY engine revving towards 12,000rpm, it sounds absolutely phenomenal.
