When Rolf Van Os lined up in last place on the grid for this Supercar Challenge race at TT Circuit Assen, you can just tell he was itching for a battle. We’re riding onboard as he flies away from the line, first having to weave his way through the stragglers that clearly shouldn’t be ahead of him in terms of speed. As we exit turn one, he’s already picked off the slowest ten cars in the race.
The progress continues as we accelerate past a couple of Clios, weaving this way and that in the traffic in desperation to carve a way through. Barely a lap later, Rolf has made his way into the top ten, and now he’s got his head down to chassing a string of slightly quicker cars.
He doesn’t shy from the challenge though, picking them off one corner after another. A particularly stubborn Marcos Mantis causes some frustration, but we’re eventually able to force our way by with a brave move around the outside of the long right-hander at turns 12 and 13.
We sadly have to leave Rolf as it sits in second place at the end of his high-octane tear through the field. Lasting impacts include ringing ears from that relentless racing transmission, and a new-found can-do attitude that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
