What’s your ideal kind of interior decor? Floral displays? Perhaps a ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ frame? Well now, if you’re so inclined, you can get yourself an entire Williams Formula 1 car for display in your home.
Yes, this Williams FW14 from 1991 is going up for sale with Silverstone Auctions, as consigned by Williams itself. There is a catch, though. While a lot of this car is real FW14, as campaigned in the 1991 Formula 1 season, this is no candidate for someone on the lookout for a track day toy.
That’s because this is a display model. Although it features competition-ready bodywork and the genuine carbon braking system, it isn’t a functioning vehicle. As such, it’s probably best-suited to a place on your garage wall, Lamborghini Museum style, rather than as a running member of your collection. We’d hang it from wires like a chandelier.
This is thought to be the only surviving display model of the FW14, as shown by Williams in period and coming for sale now from Williams itself. It is said to be ‘presented in immaculate condition throughout’. In 2019, Nigel Mansell’s 1992 championship-winning FW14B sold with Silverstone Auctions for a world record of £2.7 million.
As for where we expect this to go? Well, it’s the car from the year before, akin to Mansell’s 1991 runner-up car rather than the winner. More importantly, it’s not the running real deal, so it’s anyone’s guess. Chuck in a bid and find out when it hits the block during the Silverstone Auctions Race Retro Live Online Auction on Saturday, 27th March 27 2021.
