Daytona’s Classic 24 starts with a bang

Every year, after the sun has set on the first day of the Classic 24 at Daytona, the circuit celebrates by letting off most of the gunpowder in the continental United States, as the Group A cars attack the circuit.

This is the first fully night session of the race, and it is traditionally down to the cars of the 1960s and ‘70s to kick the floodlit period off. That means that as the fireworks explode over head, the track is being lit by the headlights of Porsche 917, Lola T70 MkIIIB, Porsche 911, Jaguar E-type and more.

As this is their second session the cars will have run for 84 minutes by the end of this session, and still have two more to go over the 24 hours, and it is one of the most beautiful sights in the motorsport world.
