Four all-American noises you need to hear from the Classic Daytona 24
V8s, V8s everywhere, that's the good-ol' US of A right? Not entirely. The V8 is the mainstay of everything that American motoring holds dear, but not all of its iconic sounds have had two banks of four. Here's some wonderful noises from this Daytona weekend for your aural entertainment, and there's even a V10 in there!
SRT Viper GT3-R
It's not a Dodge, no when the Viper was reborn (remeber the SRT-10?) it was an SRT that went racing, first in an ill-fated GTE challenge and then in a slightly less ill-fated GT3 form. It has the screaming 8.4-litre V10 from the road car, but dialled up to eleven.
Corvette Daytona Prototype
Early DPs are full-on ugly, we're not sure many would argue with that. But by the last few years of their lives, after they had been upgraded to take on ACO-spec LMP2 cars, they were pretty handsome if you ask us. Oh, and they were powered by some of the meanest V8 motors ever to be fitted to a racing car.

Come on, there had to be a 'Vette in this list somewhere right? We're pretty spoiled for choice at Daytona this weekend, with everything from modern Trans-Am, to mid-2000s GT1 back to a couple of roofless '60s Grand Sports. Here is a matte black chopped-top racing example for you, with that iconic V8 rumble being enhanced by Daytona's stupendous grandstand complex.
The entire Trans-Am field
OK, so we're cheating a little bit here, this isn't a single car, it's an entire field of V8-powered, silhouette-bodied, modern Trans-Am cars. But come on, what a race to have as a support to the main event! This was the finalé of the 2018 Trans-Am series and was acting as the entrée to the Classic 24. It was also our first real experience of Trans-Am, and what an introduction it was...
