It’s main event time! For us, Group C is the undisputed peak spectacle of the 2018 Spa Classic. With a packed grid with everything from headline legend Jags and Porsches to obscure scrappers like the Gebhardt C91 resurrected for a second shot at Group C glory.
Glory, too, appeared within reach for the Cosworth-engined Gebhardt as it, in the hands of Michael Lyons, beat out all the Jags to a third pace classification at the end of race one, though bowed out after ten laps for race two. Here the Porsches showed the resilience they’re famed for, locking out the top two positions, with the Jags not far behind in fourth and fifth. Regardless of the result, seeing a hoard of Group C-era monsters tearing up Spa, whipping up dust and swilling it around with their massive aero while making a good fist of rippling the tarmac was something we won’t be forgetting in a hurry.
