Gallery: Darkness fades to dawn at the HSR Classic 24

12th November 2017

Short of a shot of expresso, what’s good to get you to look alive after a shaky 40 winks during the HSR Classic 24 at Daytona? Don’t worry about it. We just pulled out of the tunnel into the infield and be met with a dull but brightening sky and sportscars continuing their unrelenting assault on the speedway at 5:40 in the morning.

We were woozy but that woke us up. As did standing at the exit of the banking as classics ripped onto the pit straight with the Sunoco sign glaring and the grandstands ablaze from the gaze of the floodlights. Watching the sunrise at Daytona as the racing continues is pretty special, even if the Floridian sun was somewhat stifled by ominous fall clouds.
