It’s one of those days where we’re craving some Americana and right now, nothing epitomises the all-American racing dream more than this fabulous onboard from our friends across the Atlantic, Historic Sportscar Racing. It’s a thundering Ford Falcon versus a grid of finely-honed historic racers on the storied paving of Sebring International Raceway.
We love to see it and most prominently, hear it. The V8 in this Falcon sounds like a GT40 with a worrying kerosene habit and a wanton disregard for its valvetrain. We open with it bucking like a bronco as its monster V8 disagrees with part-throttle use. That’s soon remedied as the first lap gets underway and its full fury is unleashed, with the Falcon bobbing left and right across the paving, nose to tail with a Porsche 911 just ahead. As you’d expect, the German racer gets ahead in the turns but is soon reeled in on the straights. American racing escapism at its loudest and proudest. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
