Working from home can sometimes get a little quiet and, quite frankly, boring. But that’s why GRR’s Elevenses exist, and today, we’re bring you tyre-screeching Renault 5 Turbo action from the 2020 Turckheim Hillclimb.
The Renault 5 Turbo weighs less than 900kg – much of which is placed over the rear – which means it demands a very experienced driver indeed. With Jean Baptiste Lavaux at the wheel, the Group B mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive weapon flies up the slopes of the Vosges mountains, sliding all over the shop. Watch from inside and out as he makes the most of all 300PS from the growling 1.4-litre engine, shifting through the manual box furiously and counteracting any turbo lag.
At 3.7-miles, and featuring countless tight turns and sweeping curves, the Turckheim is one of the Alsace’s most exhilarating hillclimbs, with drivers regularly approaching 100mph along the narrow, often barrierless road. It’s terrifying and thrilling, even from the comfort of our desks.
