What has been described as a treasure trove of car parts for some of the world’s most illustrious and valuable cars has been discovered in shipping containers in the south-east of England.

Many of the parts are still wrapped in oiled paper and stored in wooden packing crates which have been undisturbed since the 1960s. The array of classic spares are for cars that include the Maserati 250F and Ferrari models such as the 250 SWB, 250 GTO, 275, Competition Daytona, F40 and 512 LM.

"As the parts were uncovered I felt like Howard Carter uncovering Tutankhamun's tomb,” said auctioneer Nick Wells who will be selling all the parts for Coys at its Blenheim Palace auction on June 29th. They are expected to make over a million pounds.

Coys says a classic car parts discovery of this importance and rarity is unprecedented. Coys MD Chris Routledge, who is currently cataloguing the parts, said: “I have never seen anything like it. There are wire wheels in their original wooden boxes, carburettors in their original oiled wrapping paper, exhaust pipes, radiator grilles, dashboards. We are looking at least £1 million pounds worth of spares, probably more.”

The items were part of a private collection, the owner of which passed away many years ago.
