Good lord do we love Formula 5000. Wheels, suspension, a seat, some rudimentary aero, all bolted to an enormous 5.0-litre V8 engine. Laguna Seca is a brilliant circuit for them to stretch their trunk-like legs around too, with everything from broad sweepers to tight technical stuff and of course, the infamous corkscrew.
We see in this on board video that Craig Bennett just about has the measure of both car and circuit, starting from 30th and fighting his way up the order to finish fourth. It isn’t long before he sees some clean circuit ahead and can really press on to try and catch the next pack. Sometimes the speed he carries through a corner compared to those up ahead makes them feel like mobile traffic cones.
